Building Your Village: Support Through Pregnancy and Postpartum

Building Your Village Support Through Pregnancy and Postpartum
August 07, 2026 by wellnesscontrib

Pregnancy and Postpartum Don’t Happen in Isolation

There is a reason people say, “It takes a village to raise a child.” The truth is, it takes a village to support a parent, too.

Pregnancy and postpartum are transformative seasons filled with excitement, change, learning, and adjustment. While much of the focus is placed on preparing for baby’s arrival, preparing your support system is just as important.

Your village is the people, professionals, and communities that provide encouragement, knowledge, and practical support throughout your journey. And this village includes both moms and dads — partners are active participants who also need connection, education, and support.

Building Your Village Before Baby Arrives

Identify Your Core Circle Early

Start by thinking about the people you can rely on during pregnancy and after birth.

Your circle may include:

  • Your partner or co-parent
  • Family and close friends
  • Other parents who understand the journey
  • People who can provide emotional or practical support

A strong village does not have to be large — it needs to be supportive, respectful, and dependable.

Line Up Professional Support

Your village can also include healthcare professionals who guide you through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Through Project Motherhood’s Perks Program, members have access to a network of trusted experts and resources designed to support different stages of the pregnancy and postpartum journey.

Consider connecting early with:

  • Your healthcare provider
  • Lactation consultants
  • Pelvic floor physiotherapists
  • Mental health professionals
  • Prenatal educators and birth support professionals

Knowing where to turn before challenges arise can make the transition into parenthood feel more supported.

Embrace the Modern Village

Today’s village may look different from generations before. Many families live away from relatives or are building their support systems in new ways.

The modern village can include a trusted friend who checks in, a partner who prepares alongside you, a parent group, virtual communities, or local resources that help you feel connected.

Support can come in many forms — what matters is finding the support that works for your family.

Community Connection – Project Motherhood

At Project Motherhood, we believe every parent deserves access to education, connection, and a supportive community.

Starting in September, Project Motherhood will be sponsoring The Milk Bar — a safe and welcoming space for moms-to-be, new moms, and their babies to gather, connect, and receive support.

The Milk Bar will offer:

  • Opportunities to meet other parents
  • A supportive environment for moms and babies
  • Expert speakers and education
  • A place to ask questions and share experiences

Your village begins before your baby arrives. By building connections early, you create a stronger foundation for yourself, your baby, and your family.

Because parenthood was never meant to be experienced alone.

Project Motherhood is here to help you build your village.
